Pocket Portals
Pocket portals contain self-contained spaces beyond their entrances. Depending on their construction, they may hold a single room, a storage space, a building, or an entire functioning environment.
Time inside a pocket portal does not always move at the same rate as time in Amblem.
Each portal’s rate is determined by how it’s built. Regulated portals must remain within Council restrictions.
Illegal portals may distort time far beyond those limits, making years pass inside while far less time passes in Amblem.
Known Time Differences
| Portal Type | Time Inside | Time in Amblem |
|---|
| Ordinary travel portal | Passage only | No meaningful difference |
| Regulated pocket portal | 1 year | 2 years |
| Gethse’main | 3 years | 2 years |
| Fractured or unstable portal | Unpredictable | Unpredictable |
Gethse’main’s accelerated passage of time exceeds the rate permitted by the Council, making it an illegal portal.
Why Doesn’t Everyone Use a Portal?
Portals require more than raw power. Depending on the type, a traveler may need:
- access to a regulated station;
- knowledge of the destination;
- a stable anchor;
- portal-building training;
- inherited supernatural ability;
- or permission from the Council.
Opening a portal carelessly can send someone to the wrong location, strand them between worlds, or destabilize the portal itself.
Sometimes public transportation really is the safer option.
